Katrina (below) is a
Suitably Attired success story. She came out of a drug and
alcohol treatment facility a few years ago. She got her GED,
and now works to help other women earn their GED. She is also
a student at The University of Toledo studying Accounting, and
has 7 children.
This is Sandra
(above). Sandra came to Suitably Attired when she started a new
job. She works full time now and also is a tax consultant for
H&R Block this time of year. She has been married for 17 years,
no children. She is modeling a tan suit and black rayon blouse with
an equestrian print. These items were donated by Suitably Attired.
Our
Philosophy
Like other
professional clothing closets across the nation, our mission
is based on the following premise: If a woman doesn't have a
job, she can't afford career clothing. Yet, without
appropriate attire for an interview, she can't get a job.
It's a Catch-22. Suitably Attired opened in June of 2001 to
solve that problem for low income women in the Toledo, Ohio
area.
Our
Clients
Clients are
referred by a number of social service agencies, job readiness
programs, and the welfare department. Our clients are
primarily in their twenties and thirties; many are entering
the job market for the first time; 95% are single mothers,
many of whom have been abused, and many come from area
shelters. We have recently opened our doors to those coming
out of drug and alcohol treatment programs and the criminal
justice system. Almost all of our clients report household
incomes of less than $10,000. The need for our services is
apparent.
